Pediatric Eye Care

Children don't always know what "normal" vision looks like — which means vision problems can go undetected for years, affecting learning, development and confidence. Our child-friendly examinations are designed to be engaging and stress-free, using age-appropriate tests and a gentle approach that puts young patients at ease.

We recommend a child's first eye exam at age 3, again before starting school, and then annually throughout their school years.

Available at: All 5 Branches

What's included

  • Age-appropriate visual acuity testing
  • Amblyopia (lazy eye) and strabismus (squint) screening
  • Binocular vision and eye movement assessment
  • Colour vision and depth perception testing
  • School readiness vision screening
  • Parent consultation and follow-up guidance

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions we hear most often.

Healthy adults aged 18–60 should have a comprehensive eye exam every two years. If you wear glasses or contact lenses, have a family history of eye disease, suffer from diabetes or hypertension, or are over 60, annual exams are recommended.
Most South African medical aids include optical benefits — typically covering one eye exam and a frame/lens allowance every two years. We accept most major medical aid plans. Contact your nearest branch or your medical aid directly to confirm your specific benefits.
We recommend a child's first eye exam at around age 3, and again before starting Grade R or Grade 1. After that, annual exams throughout school years are ideal. Many learning difficulties are linked to undetected vision problems.
Yes, walk-ins are welcome for the driver's licence eye test at all three of our branches during operating hours. To avoid waiting, you can book an appointment online or by phone. The test takes about 10–20 minutes depending on the patient and you receive the certificate on the same day (if you passed the test).
Most people who wear prescription glasses can wear contact lenses, including those with astigmatism or presbyopia. A contact lens fitting consultation will assess your corneal shape, prescription and tear film health to determine the best lens type for you. We provide trial lenses so you can try before you commit.
Standard prescription glasses are typically ready within 5–7 working days. More complex prescriptions or specialty lenses may take slightly longer. We will notify you as soon as your glasses are ready for collection.
